My Good Friday

June 22nd is a very exciting day! I left my house at 11 for my first appointment today. On my way to attend the first promotional event for an upcoming movie as the MC, my friend who’s visiting Taiwan called me up and we decided to have lunch tomorrow.

Despite the turn-out wasn’t as crowded as we expected, the event was quite successful. The event took place at a local girl’s high school. Next week is the final week of this semester and every kid is probably studying their ass off for the most important exam of the entire semester.

One hour went by fast and we all enjoyed it very much. Usually when an event is over, everyone just goes separately way. Today must be a good day because the director, the leading actor (He’s so delicious-looking!) along with his agent and I had lunch together afterwards. We had a very authentic Shanghai-style lunch at a well-known restaurant. Of course I couldn’t have asked for better company to dine with!

As our lunch came to an end, I realized that my friend’s company is having a press conference nearby. I like to go to these events just to check on the MC since I also do the same kind of work. Who knows? Maybe I’ll learn a thing or two from the MC. On the other hand, I can always find free food and drinks. There’s nothing better than wine & dine on someone else’s dime!

Good things always happen when you’re least expected. When I walked in the venue, my favorite bartender was standing there and boy, he’s looking at me! What a total surprise! I have not seen him for months. He came around me and just like old friends do, we hugged and kissed on the cheeks. He thought I was still in the States! He told me about his new restaurant and invited me over to the opening next week.

Sweet! This is the second gorgeous-looking man I’m hanging out with today! It must be a Good Friday today!

After the press conference ended, I had to rush over to a meeting and it’s about new opportunities. That went well and I’m really looking forward to this new collaboration.

I don’t how it happened but everything I’m involved with today is all walking distance from one another. How convenient! I’m just hanging out in the same area all day!

Tonight is the Taipei Film Festival’s opening. I didn’t make it to the reception party ‘till almost 6. When I picked up my press pass, all the staff seems to know who I am. It’s strange because they’re really friendly toward me but I am not sure about their names. Of course I know some of them though I have to think about it first.

Once I’m inside the party, I run into a lot of people I know from the movie industry. Man, I sure know a lot of people! Then the organizer of the film festival came up to me and asked if I can be the MC for an event next week. The Taipei mayor is throwing a party for all the foreign guests who are here for the film festival. I’ll be honored to host the party. This is more than what I expected. I just come in for some food and drinks and walk out with one more gig on the way which means extra pocket change for next month!

I’ve noticed something interesting lately about my freelancing work. Luck travels in a mysterious way – in my case, it comes in three. When I get one thing going, the rest just keep coming. It feels good to know that things are finally moving along!

Believe it or not, Taipei has become too small for me. How come? When I walk in to a party, I always end up seeing familiar faces. Everywhere I go is like Cheers – everyone knows your name! And I have one too many Cheers in my book!

As much as I would love to stay, I had to rush off to my next destination which is the Hennessy VSOP party. I’ve invited three friends to join me and they’re all there waiting for me already! Leaving one party for another is not as easy as you may think. I wanted to say goodbyes before heading out and it’s taking forever because I’d be here all night if I had to do it one by one. Thank god the opening was about to start and everyone hurried to get a seat in the theater. It was my queue to dash off to my next event!

I didn’t want to miss this Hennessy party because I was looking forward to check out some of the artists who were scheduled to perform on stage. Here comes another complimentary food & drink event. As I walked through the red carpet, I bumped into David. Knowing that David is here, I know his partner in crime, JJ, must be present. JJ and I were close last winter but eventually he bored me to death and I had to let him go. It's been over six months since we last saw each other and I don't want to run into him at a fun event like this. He just might ruin my partying mood!

If everything would go my way, I would be GOD. As soon as I set foot into the party venue, who was standing right there and looking at me? JJ! I'm not sure if anyone caught it when he shook my hand. I was ready to give him a warm hug but he surprised me with a lousy handshake. A wimpy handshake like that makes me think less of a man and he's got the wimpest of all! He's not even worth my time for any chit-chat. So my friends and I gotta do what we're here for - PARTYING!

We ate, we drank, and we danced and even sang along with the live music. For four hours, the drinks kept coming and we never stopped laughing. Oh, life is grand!

When we left the party, the organizer gave each of us mini-bar size liquor as a souvenir. It was 11 already and I was supposed to show up at a champagne party. I called my friends to see if they’re still at that venue. Luckily no one answered. They must be having a blast and never noticed that their cell phones were ringing off the hook. As we said good night, we all went home with such good moods that will linger throughout the
