Mark Wahlberg in "Shooter" - You're My New Action Hero!

Part of my work is to attend movie screenings and talk about them on my radio show afterwards. It's truly a perk because I can't remember the last time I paid for a movie!

Some radio hosts choose not to watch the movies and instead they use the information that's already available as show prep material. Well, I won't recommend my listeners to watch a movie that I have not seen. I'm not saying that I'm a professional movie critic. Cinema, much like perfume, is a very personal thing. However, I do hope that my listeners will listen to what I have to say about the movie before they spend money on it. Don't you get all upset when you just watch a horrible movie in the theatre and there's no way you can ask for your money back?!
Today I had the chance to see "Shooter," featuring Mark Wahlberg. This movie will open worldwide on Friday, March 23. I don't know about you but I remeber him as Marky Mark when he was the underwear model for Calvin Klein. He's done quite a few movies after he stopped rapping. Suprisingly he's pretty good at acting. I really like him in The Departed last year which scored him an Oscar nomination. He's come along way from a troubled teen who's been arrested at least 20 times to the red carpet of the Academy Award.

I'm sure that men have a different idea for action heroes. For me, Mark Wahlberg's body is just to die for! Talk about yummy....he's good enough to eat! His muscular physique just makes any woman drool!

Overall, "Shooter" is a good flick. It makes you think twice about what you read in the paper. I had my reservation before going to the movie. But it's definitely an action-packed and will keep you on the edge of your seat!

A Money Shot

It's a birthday party for a group of my guy friends who turned 40 this month. I got to wrestle one of the birthday boys and earned some pocket change after the fight. As you can see, I won!

I Brought the Good Weather to San Francisco!

The week before I left Taipei, something strange happened. No, I didn't get married to a stranger! The weather became super-warm and it felt like summertime! Basically, somehow we skipped spring and went straight to the hot & humid which is typical for the summer in Taiwan.

Then as soon as I landed in San Francisco, the weather went from rainy and cold to fabulous & gorgeous! Obviously, the good weather traveled with me abroad to California! In addition, the beautiful weather will be gone by next Monday according to the weather forecast this morning. And that's also the day I leave for Southern California!

Haha! Isn't that amazing?!

A Day in Downtown

Just a friendly reminder: Daylight saving begins early this year and it started at 2 am today!

The weather has been so gorgeous that I could not have asked for better weather! It almost felt like summertime. On Saturday Dave and I went shopping in downtown San Francisco. Men definitely have a different way of shopping. Basically Dave mapped out all the stores he wanted to go and lined up an order to go through all of them within a few hours. I walked so much in my Gucci heels that my feet are hurting me now. On top of that I joined a huge group of friends to go dancing all night. My feet are just killing me!

We went into Ted Baker, Energy, Diesel, Virgin Records, Bloomingdale's, Nordstrom, Armani Exchange and Macy's. By 6 pm we're inside of the Slanted Door in the Ferry Building, waiting for seats to be available at the counter. Talk about efficiency!

Before I met Dave, I had no idea how delicious raw oysters can be. The rumor has it that the two of us had ordered 100 oysters at Hog Island Oysters last June. Nothing was left except for 100 empty shells. We enjoyed those oysters with some fine white wine as well.

We started off with some fresh oysters, hibachi, yellow tails, and scallops followed by Chicken dumpling soups with watercress. Our main course is a big fat juicy rock cod!!! Oh boy, that was delicious!

I skipped dessert and had Vietnamese coffee to finish off our dinner because I was going over to the Grand Cafe to meet up with my Saturday night partying group. If you ever go to San Francisco, you'll have to dine at the Slanted Door. Just the view by the ferry is worth every cent you spend on dinner! It's one of my favorite restaurants in the city. If you love raw oysters, let's not forgot Hog Island Oysters. Their happy hour is every Thursday starting at 5 pm - $1 per oyster! That's a total bargain because you won't get anything as fresh as these oysters!

The night didn't end with dinner at the Grand Cafe. We proceeded to Le Colonial. I celebrated my 30th birthday there. I remember ordering a huge lobster and it was yummy! I was sweating so much from dancing and we sang along to all the old school tunes we grew up with. That was fun 'cuz the dance floor turned into a giant KTV!

For the last hour or so, we stopped by Swig to have more drinks and more dancing. By now, I didn't feel my feet anymore. Nonetheless, we're a fun bunch! The problem with partying in California is that everything is shut down by 2 am. Last call is after 1:30 and all the lights are turned on by 1:50 as a forewarning to all.

I always get a late night craving for something. Tonight was chocolate milkshake. Wallace said that Jack in the Box has shakes. We waited in line, not to mention outdoors, and were told that they ain't got shakes on their menu. Then I thought about Mel's Drive-In where I used to go for late night snack after clubbing in the good old days. But it was closed when we drove by.

We came home and made Shin Ramen with an egg and carrots again. Thanks to daylight saving. I lost an hour of sleep tonight and it's 5 am again. I've been going to sleep at 5 am three nights in a row now. Gotta get some ZZZ 'cuz James is going to pick me up for brunch a few hours from now!

In San Francisco from March 8th thru 20th

My premonition tells me that 2007 is going to be a very busy year. I left Taipei late Thursday night and boarded an EVA flight to LAX. Normally SFO is my destination. However, due to some last minute changes, LAX is the best way to go. It's been years since my last visit to LAX. And I must be spoiled by the brand new spacious SFO. LAX is like a traditional market because it's got all kinds of odors. It was almost unbearable!

Ever since I started traveling at a young age by myself, I always worried about being stranded at the airport. My concerns have always been either my designated person didn't show up to give me a ride or he / she simply forgot.

My connecting flight from LAX to SFO didn't get in 'till almost midnight. And I wasn't sure if my ride was going to show up because he'd told me that he's been super busy lately and he had very little sleep for the past week. When I walked out the airport and waited by the curbside, a burgundy Honda CRV pulled up and it was my friend Wallace!

This time around my plan is to stay with Wallace. He and another friend came to Taipei for my birthday last November and they stayed with me during their first visit to Taiwan. So he's very generous and offered to let me stay at his house for as long as I like.

It turned out that my worry was unnecessary 'cuz both my designated ride and my host showed up! I feel so loved!!!

After I was dropped off at Wallace's, he made me some hot noodle soup and opened a bottle of red wine. We sipped fine wine and chatted 'till almost 5 AM! 'Cuz, ya know...once a wine bottle is open, we won't rest 'till it's finished!

What a fabulous way to kick off a vacation!
