Shaka:The Most Relaxing Thing To Do After Work-Good Dinner, Sip Scotch Whiskey & Smoke Fine Cigar
There were over 60 bars and night spots on AnHe Road during Taiwan’s blooming economy. Ever since the recession at least half of the ownerships continued to change hands. Those unaffected by it are few and far between. One of them is Shaka, hidden in the alley for 6 years now, must be something special in order to survive and continue to flourish in this plummeting economy.
As you walk in you’ll notice the delicately crafted hardwood bar. The comfy-looking high stools are lined up along the arc shaped bar. You walk further and will find a small bar counter that’s about the height of standard office table. Supposedly this is the designated seats for regulars. The fish tank is so big that it literally takes over the entire wall. Originally it was meant to provide extra lighting in this dim space but it turned out to be the perfect feng shui spot. Customers rave about it, saying that it brings good luck for those who lay eyes on it. The interior is mixed with classic designs and modern contemporary décor. 100 seats are spread out in the bar section and lounge area on the 1st floor and booths and a cellar in the basement. The inside is spacious and cozy. The minimum charge for a booth is NT$5,000 but the capacity is more than 10 people in one booth. The cellar is built by red bricks and the stainless racks are filled with red and white wine from France and Italy. While you sip such fine wine you feel like you’re in the basement of some European château.
Happy hour is from 7 to 9:30 pm, Sunday through Thursday. When two people come together the special promotion is get two cocktails and get one free; when three’s company, it’s buy one cocktail buy one free. Cool looking bartender Robert makes an excellent “Apple Martini”﹙NT$380﹚. It is smooth and comes with an intriguing aroma. Mojito﹙NT$350﹚is what you need in order to cool off in the summer and this drink is also one of Robert’s specialties.
The regulars come straight to Shaka after work. Dinner includes Italian, Japanese, American and of course Chinese cuisine. The first and foremost recommendation from Manager XiaoGao is “Chicken Meat Dan Dan Noodles In Sichuan Style”﹙NT$300﹚. The broth is made of chicken bones and requires hours of brewing on the stove. If you’re a fan of spicy hot cuisine, this definitely will make you a happy camper. It has so much Chinese red chili peppers that it burns so good. “BBQ Short Rib Steak With Teriyaki Sauce”﹙NT$380﹚is medium rare, tender and sweet. Thanks to low-temperature grilling. Take one bite and you just want to keep it all to yourself. “Sautéed Shrimps & Mushrooms Italian Style”﹙NT$320﹚is seasoned by white wine, basil, salt and pepper. It is full of flavors.
You’ll find rarely seen brands of whiskey in Shaka and there are varieties of exquisite whiskeys on the shelf. Manager XiaoGao takes whiskey very seriously. He says that there’s no other way of serving it than a big block of ice shaped like a diamond in a whiskey tumbler. If you order a bottle of whiskey and can’t finish it all at once, you may store it on the shelf for as long as one year. There’s something worth mentioning and that is Shaka has its own brand of whiskey. The wooden barrel by the entrance is an in house blend. You can order a glass for tasting and light up a cigar – the combination is wonderful. Leave your work and worries behind and enjoy the moment because you deserve it.

在全盛時期,安和路上有超過60家的夜店、酒吧,轉眼之間,至少有一半店的家不停轉手,能夠在這波不景氣中屹立不搖的算是少數,而這其中一家Shaka,身藏巷子六年之久,想必有過人之處。
一進門只見特別精心打造的木質吧台,舒適的高腳椅沿著圓弧形排排站,走到最裡面就會看到高度只達一般辦公桌的矮酒吧,據說這是常客的指定座位。幾乎佔了整面牆的水族箱,原本只是想讓這個空間多一點亮度,無心插柳,成了客人口中的絕佳風水,更是帶來好兆頭。室內裝潢穿插古典與現代的風格設計,100個座位分散在一樓的吧台及沙發區、地下室的包廂和酒窖,空間寬闊而且溫馨。包廂的最低消費是5,000元,可以容納十個人以上;酒窖的四周以紅磚構成,不鏽鋼酒架上放滿來自法國、義大利的紅白酒,細細品酌異國美酒,彷彿已置身在歐洲某個酒莊的地窖。
每週日到週四晚間九點半前,兩人同行調酒買二送一,三人行則是買一送一。帥氣的調酒師Robert的蘋果馬丁尼﹙380元﹚真是令人讚不絕口,口感順,而且香氣迷人;夏天消暑必備的Mojito﹙350元﹚,也是Robert的拿手調酒。
熟客大多在下班後直接過來,晚餐包括義大利菜和日式、美式料理,當然也少不了中式菜色。店長小高首先推薦的是四川雞柳擔擔麵﹙300元﹚,湯頭是雞骨熬煉而成,喜歡吃辣的千萬別錯過,這碗可是放了大量花椒,會讓你辣到大聲叫好。醬燒無骨牛小排﹙380元﹚以低溫烤到七分熟,肉質嫩又甜,你吃一口之後應該只想自己獨佔。義式鮮蝦蘑菇﹙320元﹚佐白酒、羅勒、胡椒和鹽調味,吃起來鮮蝦香甜、蘑菇清脆。
在Shaka,你會找到市面上少見的威士忌,而且種類之多,店長小高對於威士忌很講究,堅持一定要用一個多菱角形的冰磚放在威士忌專用平底酒杯。如果開一整瓶威士忌,存酒期限長達一年。Shaka甚至有自家品牌的威士忌,門口的木桶裝的就是Shaka的獨家釀造。這時再點上一根上好的雪茄,這一天工作的辛苦頓時拋到腦外,享受人生就趁現在。
