A man who can make a woman smile is a good man to keep! And a good meal can always make my smile bloom like cherry blossom. For someone like me who is absolutely inadequate to do any kind of cooking I love a man who can cook and make wonders in the kitchen. So it becomes almost a habit to befriend chefs every chance I get. My eyes literally will light up the second I hear a male’s voice saying, “I love cooking!” Once that voice has been identified as a chef by trade I have an impulse to go up and introduce myself.
Chef Bernie came to Taiwan in 1992 and he’s worked at a handful of western cuisine establishments throughout Taipei. I’m his most loyal fan, following him wherever he worked. Even though he took a break from Taipei and moved to Shanghai for about five years. He just can’t leave Taipei behind and returned to Taipei as soon as his post in Shanghai was finished.
More than 10 years down the road Chef Bernie and I have become great friends. He’s always managed to surprise me with his creations. The other day we’re talking about his kids I was so touched when he said, “I have 4 kids – 3 sons and then you!”
