Latest Recipe @ Le Meridien Taipei
The word is that this restaurant is as popular as Kitchen Table @W Taipei. Reservation has to be confirmed two months in advance. Everyone has to eat every day. This is just a buffet restaurant inside of an international chained hotel, not a Michelin 3 star establishment. I’ve got to find out what the fuzz is all about.
So, here we come, a round table is reserved for 8 people. I made one phone call and my contact booked Sunday afternoon tea for my party.
There are two things you don’t ever want to come across at buffets: 1. Produce and ingredients are not the freshest available like a cheap joint; 2. Try to seat too many people as if it’s an over-crowded wet market. Luckily Le Meridien Taipei has neither problem. However, due to limited space and interior design it’s not as bright and spacious as W Taipei. It’s obvious that there’s a lack of service staff and it’s especially annoying the manager has to present me the bill when I’m half way through my meal.
The variety is average. It’s considered a petite size of buffet and yet delicious. Everything I had is tasty. I like some of the savory dishes that are authentic such as stir-fry rice noodle, Taiwanese meatball, soup of pork ribs and etc. You’ll definitely get your money worth on desserts. Bread pudding, Mont Blanc, mochi with chestnut filing and French crêpe are worth writing home about but I was disappointed that they didn’t have homemade ice cream. For a restaurant this caliber serving imported consumer brands of ice cream is not acceptable.
Will I wait two months for a reservation at Le Meridien Taipei? Hell no! In a communist country you can wait hours in line for food and it’s free. This ain’t free. You have to wait two months so that you can eat there and pay for it yourself?! Just wait and see. When the next “IN” place opens for business, this will become a non-issue then.
Last but not least, this meal was very satisfying. It’s been more than five hours since I left the restaurant and I’m still full. It’s definitely money well spent(NT790+10%)
