FLASHBACKS OF A FOOL﹙Chinese Title: 舊愛,還是最美﹚
FLASHBACKS OF A FOOL﹙Chinese Title: 舊愛,還是最美﹚
Releasing Date in Taiwan: January 30th 2009
Some say that Daniel Craig is by far the unsexiest 007 Bond ever but no one can deny the fact that he’s a great actor. He can star in a so-so film and his performance actually adds brownie points.
In FLASHBACKS OF A FOOL Daniel Craig plays Joe, an English actor who has fame & fortune but loses himself in drugs, alcohol and promiscuous sex. He gets a call from his mother to inform him that his best friend from childhood has passed away. As Joe attempts suicide by drowning himself in the ocean then his memory takes us back to his adolescence years and unravels the mystery of his sudden departure from home 25 years ago. And it will help the viewers to understand why Joe’s life is in such a mess when he seems to have it all as a Hollywood star.
As adults we often forget how to live in the moment like kids and yet we’re affected (mentally or internally) by a major event took place in our younger years. It might be something tragic too. For Joe his bitter sweet teenage years left a permanent scar on him.
You might feel a sense of nostalgia or even sadness throughout this film. As Joe reminisces about his first love you begin to think about yours. Life waits for no one. So you just have to move on and be the best person you can be. Don’t dwell on the past. Let bygones be bygone!
By the way it’s surprising to see Eve﹙the singer﹚portray Joe’s housekeeper / assistant. Even though it’s a very small part at first I can hardly recognize her without the usual rapper outfit and makeup. She’s a convincing personal assistant with an attitude!
The theme song for FLASHBACKS OF A FOOL is If There Is Something by Roxy Music. The most important scene in the film is when Joe dances to this song with his first love in her living room. “…Shake your hair girl with your ponytail. Takes me right back (when you were young)…” There is love in the air!
If There Is Something by Roxy Music (Lyrics by Bryan Ferry)
If there is something that I might find
Look around corners
Try to find peace of mind I say
Where would you go if you were me
Try to keep a straight course not easy
Somebody special looking at me
A certain reaction we find
What should it try to be I mean
If there are many
Meaning the same
Be specific just a game
I would do anything for you
I would climb mountains
I would swim all the oceans blue
I would walk a thousand miles
Reveal my secrets
More than enough for me to share
I would put roses round our door
Sit in the garden
Growing potatoes by the score
Shake your hair girl with your ponytail
Takes me right back (when you were young)
Throw your precious gifts into the air
Watch them fall down (when you were young)
Lift up your feet and put them on the ground
You used to walk upon (when you were young)
Lift up your feet and put them on the ground
The hills were higher (when we were young)
Lift up your feet and put them on the ground
The trees were taller (when you were young)
Lift up your feet and put them on the ground
The grass was greener (when you were young)
Lift up your feet and put them on the ground
You used to walk upon (when you were young)
