It’s almost 2 am. We’ve been partying since 8 pm the night before. We went from the Grant Hyatt to Barcode. These are two different parties but roughly the same people. You know it’s time to move on to the next party when one party runs out of alcohol.
Friday night is the usual party night. But wearing high heels for six straight hours is just painful. At some point I lost sight of my friends when I ran into someone I know and we ended up having a conversation about marriage. It may seem odd to have a talk about a rather serious subject as marriage in a night club. But I must say that it was insightful to hear some honest opinions from the opposite sex who’s married and has been with the same woman for 16 years.
At my age it’s more important to get a good night rest than drink all night long ‘till all hell comes loose. So when my feet couldn’t stand it for another second, I decided to head home for some beauty sleep.
I walked out of the club alone and got into a cab by the curb. After telling the taxi driver my destination, he said to me, “What’s fun about going to the night clubs? Why do women have to dress like that to go clubbing?”
“Like that?” I asked.
“You know, they get all decked out and wear skimpy outfits,” replied the cab driver.
“The truth is that it’s not that much fun to go to the night clubs. It’s only fun if you go with your friends. But if you go too often you see the same old faces all the time and it gets boring fast. As for the way women are dressed in the night clubs there are two reasons: the most obvious reason is to attract attention from men but the most important reason is to compete with every female counterpart present in the club.” I tried to explain to him based on my own observation.
“Is that right? It’s all about competing with each other? You don’t seem like those girls I see hanging out by the entrance of the club.” He sort of checked me out through the rear-view mirror.
“Please stop right here. This is it. Would you like to see what I’m wearing tonight?” I asked jokingly.
“Hmmm…Sure, if you don’t mind.” He was a bit hesitant but definitely curious.
I unzipped my gold leather jacket and he gazed at me in awe.
“Have a good night. Drive safely!” I zipped up my jacket as I hopped out and walked toward my building.
