The Latest Fad in Taipei

Ben and Jerry's is my all-time favorite ice cream. Unfortunately, I've given it up since returning to Taipei more than a year ago. There are very few places for ice cream in Taipei, let alone good ones. Last weekend I had dinner at a Russian restaurant called "Salt & Bread" nearby my house. There I found some great ice cream. Expensive but delicious!

The other day I discovered TCBY in a shopping mall. Other than these two, there's always Hagen Doz which is quite popular here. I've seen at least three or four Haagen-Daz ice cream parlors in Taipei alone. Unfortunately, I am not too crazy about it.

Taipei has become more and more modernized since the late 90s. What Taipei amazes me the most is its adaptability and open mind.

Not too long ago, you couldn't find Starbucks anywhere in Taiwan. Some say that any chain-coffee shops will never survive in this market because tea is the majority choice of beverage.

Think again! When the very first Starbucks opend in Taipei, people formed a line all the way to the street for a cup of coffee.

I never knew that Japan is famous for donuts until Mister Donut, a Japanese chain-donut shop, launched three locations in Taipei. I don't understand why people like to wait in line for these donuts. I've tried a few flavors and they didn't impress me at all. Supply cannot meet the demand. Therefore, every person in line is allowed to buy no more than 10 donuts per visit to the donut shop. Crazy!
