What TV Makeup Can Do

Before Makeup Posted by Hello

Most of my work experiences lie in the broadcasting industry - radio to be exact. TV is a total different ballgame. Recently, in Taiwan, I had a chance to be part of a TV project for the US market - making a demo tape for a news program which features current affairs and special features about Asia. It was an eye-opening experience!

Celebrities on TV always look fabulous! In real life, you might be disappointed when you meet them in person. They don't quite look the same! When they're on TV, they get helps from professional makeup artists and hair stylist.

My friend E and I were both featured in the demo tape. We girls are not big on makeup. We apply some facial lotion, dab a little lip gloss, and we're ready to head out the door.

When we were 'all made up' for the filming, we didn't exactly look like ourselves. The makeup artist spent a good 30 minutes on each of us. 30 minutes!!! It's really a painstaking process. When the makeup was done, I didn't even recognize myself. I've never looked so "pale" in my life!

I thought, "This is probably how the mortuary will do to my face the day I die!"

After the filming, I spent 30 minutes washing off the makeup.

Please take a look at our BEFORE & AFTER pictures. My boyfriend's comment is "they make you look so Chinese!" Wait a minute! I am Chinese!

Personally, I prefer no makeup. It takes too much time and it's terrible for your skin.

My mother only had makeup done ONCE IN HER LIFE - it was her wedding day. According to her, she didn't like it and couldn't wait to wash it all off. She doesn't own a single lipstick, let alone any other cosmetic.

When I was growing up, my mom would warn me about the toxic in cosmetic products. And she would tell stories about some women who insisted to be seen with makeup. They would wake up early to do their makeup. The husbands never saw the faces buried underneath the makeup.

A few years ago, a group of my female friends spent New Year's Eve in Hong Kong. It was our first trip together. It was also my first time seeing Judy without makeup. I was shocked! I was not prepared for what I saw in the morning! She looked like a total different person! I couldn't look at her until after she put on her makeup. This little incident proved the power of makeup and what it can do for women.

I have no doubt that makeup can do wonders. As for me, I'm happier without it. I believe in natural beauty!
